Middle Road Pork Ribs Prawn Mee – Farrer Park / Bugis

It’s time to introduce my all time favourite prawn mee. I love Bak Kut Teh (Pork Ribs Soup), innards and prawn noodles. This Pork Ribs Prawn Mee is an awesome combination of all these. I grew up eating this noodles as it’s my parents favourite as well. It’s their go-to place for breakfast on their off days and the stall owners go way back with my parents, often travelling together to parts of Thailand and China.

Why is this noodles so delicious to me? First off is the soup. It’s not the usual prawn mee soup that’s boiled with prawn heads. This broth is more like pork ribs essence and a lot of pork meat flavours in it, really much closer to Bak Kut Teh than prawn soup. And they do not have dry version, only soup options. Second is the noodles! They do have different types like yellow noodles, flat rice noodles (Kway Tiao) and rice noodles (beehoon). The not-thick/not-thin rice noodles (medium beehoon is what I call it) has the right balance in terms of absorbency and texture – it absorbs enough soup to be flavourful but not overly soaked like the thin beehoon. Last but not least, they have ALL THE DIFFERENT INNARDS that I love. Hearts, small intestines, skin, liver and kidney. This probably gross most of you out, but really they are so good! 😀 And they get it fresh daily (not frozen) and cook it just right.

Pig's Heart
Noodles with Pig’s Heart only SGD3

Yes my favourite part is the heart because it has this chewiness to it and isn’t tough at all. Just love the texture of the heart and I usually order a small bowl of noodles because I will order the pig’s organs soup on the side. The soup with the noodles is lighter compared to that of my side order.

This usually come with prawns, pork ribs and all the innards (while stock last as selected innards sometimes run out even before lunch time like kidney and heart). The broth is usually tastier in this soup as it has all the meat flavours in it.

The wait can be frustrating, sometimes up to 45mins during peak hours on weekends. So usually we will order a plate of chicken meat to munch on something during these moments. The chicken rice at the same coffee shop on Sam Leong Road is pretty decent with a kick-ass chilli.

And yes I do love my innards so much that I need gizzards with this small plate of chicken drumstick as well 😀

Their main stall at Sam Leong Street (diagonally opposite Mustafa money changer area) closes at 1pm or earlier if they are sold out. They start at about 7am plus in the morning and their rest days are Mondays. Their branch at Queen Street, in a coffeeshop behind Bugis+ near to Ah Heng Curry Chicken Mee, usually closes slightly later like 2pm plus. I have tried both stalls before and much prefer the Sam Leong stall’s broth. If you are a enthusiast about innards and strong pork flavours, you will definitely love this. But if you are looking for the prawn flavours in your prawn mee, you won’t find it at this stall. Nonetheless, do be prepared to wait unless you go at odd hours on weekdays as they are really quite popular especially with the older folks 🙂 like me.
